The first step is believing.
There is tremendous power in positivity and optimism. I know for a fact that it changed my life, however I never knew the scientific evidence behind it until I began reading studies and referencing the work of neurologists on the subject.
It turns out that you can control the lens through which your brain filters information. If you wake up and say, “Today is a fabulous day,” your reticular activating system, the part of your brain that filters out 90% of what’s going on in your environment and processes your experiences throughout the day, will focus on the good things that are happening. This helps your brain move from survival mode to healing mode. It moves it from degeneration to regeneration. You are able to think more clearly and be more present, creative and productive.
With that in mind, just think how believing or not believing that something can be done affects your brain. When you believe something is impossible, your mind goes to work to prove the impossibility. But, when you believe something’s possible, your mind starts finding ways to make it happen. Belief then becomes a powerful catalyst for personal and professional growth.
With that said, it’s important to be aware of the influence of others. Avoid people who are negative, give up easily and render situations hopeless. If you feel someone is dragging you down, they likely are, so it’s probably time to cut ties or reduce your time with them. Instead, surround yourself with people who inspire, challenge and help you find solutions.
We are complex individuals with different talents and skills that are not fixed or pre-determined but can change and grow. With the right mindset, we can develop our talents and use our skills in a variety of ways to accomplish our goals. Everything is possible when we use our past successes to fuel the belief in our ability to accomplish future goals. There’s a lot of truth to the old expression, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” The first and most powerful step is believing.
