Focus on your progress.

Focus on your progress.

We all have an Achilles heel in life.  A weakness or vulnerability that seems to plague us-fear, anxiety, impulsivity, impatience, overreaction, acquiescing, overprotection, etc.  No matter what you throw at it, it never really disappears from your life.  Why is that?

Here’s my theory.  It’s not meant to disappear.   It’s meant to shape you into the person you are meant to be.

  • People who are fearful often reach self-realization and spiritual enlightenment much sooner than those who are fearless

  • People with high anxiety often become high achievers

  • People with high impulsivity often become great adventurers

  • People who are overprotective often become amazing caregivers

  • And the list goes on…

We are all a work in progress.  We are each fighting our own battles, seen or unseen.  What’s important is that 1) we don’t let our Achilles heel sideline us in life; 2) we stay positive; and 3) we focus on our progress.

As long as we continue to face, challenge and move through our weaknesses, there will always be progress, even if it’s slow by the world’s standards.  Slow and steady progress is often hard to quantify or see, but there is a far greater intrinsic reward attached to it than anything extrinsic. Look back and celebrate how far you’ve come in your personal journey, and when things get hard, don’t forget to focus on your progress.
