Letting go of ego-guided decision-making.

Letting go of ego-guided decision-making.

While scrolling on social media, it is easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others.  This comparison mindset often fuels our own desire for external validation and public accolades.  It may be why we strive for certain promotions, titles, degrees, cars, homes, vacations, wardrobes – the things we consider impressive to others.

However, ego-driven decisions rarely provide sustainable satisfaction.  They often leave you feeling hallow inside.  What does provide sustainable satisfaction is 1) pursuing goals that are deeply meaningful to us and align with our strengths, values and passions, and 2) locking in on these goals long enough to bring them to fruition.

Whether the goal is in health and wellness, career and business, personal development or family and relationships, the journey is just as vital as the destination.  We learn discipline, patience, persistence, perspective, cooperation, creativity and problem-solving along the way.

Whether we realize it or not, exponential growth takes place- growth that simply isn’t possible leap-frogging opportunities or chasing status symbols.  We learn how to trust ourselves and what it’s like to experience true fulfillment or contentment in our efforts.  In the long run, we become more physically, financially and emotionally well-off.  We have the feeling that we are just where we’re meant to be, rather than the sense that we’re always behind (which we used to feel when we let our ego lead the way).
